The Passing of a Dental Icon

Dr. Jack G. Seymour was born on October 27, 1926 and he passed away on February 5, 2012. Jack was born in Denver, Colorado and attended schools in the Los Angeles area including the University of Southern California and the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. He graduated from dental school in 1951 with highest honors and was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He taught at USC on a volunteer basis throughout the years after graduation. He was selectively honored by the dental school as the only member of the volunteer faculty with the title Clinical Professor. In 1952 he married Creddy Wolf and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2011. Following his US Army service in 1952 and 1953, he practiced in Fresno for 55 years, retiring in 2010. He was buried with full military honors at the Beth Israel Cemetery.

Dr. Seymour contributed generously to dentistry- not only volunteering his time at USC and UCLA teaching gold foil to undergraduate students and graduate dentists for over 50 years, but more recently he served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Fresno-Madera Dental Foundation and also as co-director of the Study Club.

His professional memberships included tripartite membership in the Fresno-Madera Dental Society, the California Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He was awarded fellowships in the Gold Foil Academy, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American College of Dentists, the Pacific Coast Society of Dental Radiology and the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodontics.

We will all miss his generosity, humor, camaraderie and especially his exceptional clinical skills. He truly loved his chosen profession. Upon hearing about Jack’s passing a local dentist said, “There went an icon!” His license plate said it all- AUFOIL.

Jack is survived by the love of his life, Creddy, 2 sons, Kent and Scott and 2 granddaughters.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Fresno-Madera Dental Foundation, 4747 N. First Street, #128, Fresno, CA 93726.
